Speaker Highlights:
Dr. Elsa Cardenas-Hagan is a Bilingual Speech Language Pathologist, Certified Academic Language Therapist, Certified Dyslexia Therapist, and Qualified Instructor.
She is the President of Valley Speech Language and Learning Center in Brownsville, Texas which was established in 1993 and authored, Esperanza (HOPE), a Spanish language program designed to assist students who struggle with learning to read.
Is the past Vice President of the International Dyslexia Association.
Authored the book, Literacy Foundations for English Learners: A Comprehensive Guide to Evidence-Based Instruction which prepares instructors to help English learners gain the skills they need for academic success.
Is recognized for her reading reform efforts at the local, state, national and international levels. It is her hope that pre-service teachers will have the opportunity to learn evidence-based practices for teaching literacy to all students, including those who are English learners and struggle with learning to read.
